today was day 1 of mission living in the beautiful country of Brazil. Many of our teammates are on the river for the first time, and it was so beautiful to watch them experiance it. The area we will be working in this week will is called Lake Juanaca. The baptist church that we are partnered with from Manaus has a church in this area with a missonary named Ena living here. The village that we visited today is called Boa Vista, which translated to english means "beautiful view." and let me tell you that name is accurate, as well as the people.
From the moment we stepped off the boat, hopes were high and the Spirit was evident. The team from September was in this same village, so for many in our group this was a return to sweet familiar faces. The team split up in to different ministries including, vacation bible school, youth, men's, womans, medical and dental. The dental team preformed many extractions, one of which was a boy we meet on our september trip who had been having weekly seizures, he was seen by our medical team and prayed over by our team on the trip, and has not had a seizure since. the childrens. group was small which allowed the team to have great one on one time with the kids, playing, laughing, and singing songs. Some of the children had teeth pulled, only to return minutes later and continue singing and playing. The medical team saw manyy patiants, and even preformed a small surgury on the boat. The womans ministry made braclets and had a bible study about taming the tongue and committed to reading the Gospel daily.
the day was closed by worship songs and a message given by pastor Stuart, this was a miracle in itself just tracking him down to let him know that he would be preaching. He had no time to prepare, this was part of the beauty of his message. It was truly Spirit filled. He inspired the men to treat their children as gifts. He was very direct about about focusing on restoring the value of familyin the village. The most importnat point of this message was that "if you dont do it no one will. do not wait for another boat that may never come."
The team is doing well and is recovering from a long day of traveling. i am sure everyone will be sleepinf well in their hammocks tonite. so far everyone has been safe and healthy, with the exception of a few sunburns today, (despite a dermatology PA chasing everyone around withwith SPF 70). It was a good on the Amazon
